The Turkish Music Program offers courses on instruments including Bağlama, Oud, Qanun, as well as Theoretical Education.
Classes take place in 45-minute one-on-one private sessions. Our students can also attend the solfège classes opened according to the age group.
Bağlama
The Bağlama is the most common Turkish Folk instrument. The way it is called varies by region. It has three courses of string, namely in courses of two or three that can be tuned in various ways. The Bağlama is played by hand and plucks. It can also be played with a plectrum.
Getting started with the Bağlama requires sufficient development of motor skills. After an introductory session to be organized with the instructor, children aged 6+ or adults can start taking the class.
Oud
The Oud is a Turkish music instrument with a large body, a short twisted neck and a catgut played with a plectrum. It has six courses of strings and is played with a plectrum. Today, the three courses of highest strings are made of nylon, while the remaining courses are made of steel.
Aspiration, and improved motor skills are required to start Oud classes for students at any age. After students get to know the instrument and the instructor, they can start taking this class.
Qanun
The Qanun is a universal instrument which is played using 10 fingers. While the right hand plays the line of melody, the left hand rotates the mandals (levers) to accompany the melody. In Turkey, qanuns have 78 strings in various thicknesses. It is played with plectra.
After students get to know the instrument and the instructor, they can start taking this class.
